Fire Hose Reel Installation
Put out spot fires and embers before they take hold.
A fire hose reel lets you put out spot fires and embers around your home before they take hold. Paterson Bushfire Defence installs fire hose reels for homes, farms, sheds and commercial properties across the Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu Peninsula and Barossa, connected to your firefighting pump and dedicated water supply.
Hose reels that meet the standard
For homes in bushfire-prone areas, South Australia’s building standard for dedicated firefighting water supplies (MBS 008) sets out what the hose must meet. It must be reinforced to AS 1221, have an internal diameter of at least 18 mm and a length of no more than 36 m, and be fitted with an adjustable nozzle. Hoses must be positioned so the nozzle can reach every part of the building. We plan the number and location of hose reels to meet this.
Placed where you can reach them
Placement matters as much as the hose itself. We mount reels where they can be reached quickly and safely, protect the supply pipework, and connect each reel to your fire pump so it delivers full pressure. Larger homes and properties with several buildings may need more than one reel.
For commercial sites, we can install fire hose reels as part of a complete commercial bushfire defence system. Our licensed plumbers test every reel before handover and show you how to unroll, charge and use the hose.

FAQs
How long should my fire hose be?
Long enough for the nozzle to reach every part of your building, and no longer than 36 m under the South Australian standard.
Can a fire hose reel connect to my garden tap?
No. It should connect to your firefighting pump and dedicated water supply so it keeps working when mains water pressure drops.
How many hose reels do I need?
That depends on the size of your home and other buildings. We work it out during your site assessment.
Do you install hose reels for businesses?
Yes. We install fire hose reels on commercial properties as part of a commercial defence system.
