Pump Servicing

Firefighting pump installed for bushfire protection

Make sure your pump starts on the day you need it.

A fire fighting pump that has sat unused all winter may not start on the day you need it. Stale fuel, flat batteries, worn starter cords and perished seals are among the most common causes of pump failure during a bushfire. Paterson Bushfire Defence services fire pumps across the Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu Peninsula and Barossa so yours is ready before the Fire Danger Season begins.

What our pre-season service covers

Our pre-season pump service covers the engine and the pump. We drain stale fuel and refill with fresh fuel, change the oil, check the spark plug, air filter and starter, and inspect the battery on electric-start models. We then check the pump seals, impeller and priming, and run the pump under load to confirm it reaches full pressure.

We test the whole system

We also test the system it supplies. We run your sprinklers and hose reels, look for blocked heads, leaking joints and damaged pipework, and check the water level and fittings on your tank. If anything needs repair, we explain what we found and give you a quote before doing extra work.

We service Davey and Reefe fire pumps and most other makes of petrol and diesel pump, including pumps installed by other companies. Servicing once a year before summer is the best way to make sure your system works when you need it.

FAQs

How often should my fire pump be serviced?

At least once a year, before the Fire Danger Season starts in your district. We also recommend starting your pump yourself every month during summer.

Do you service pumps you did not install?

Yes. We service Davey, Reefe and most other brands of petrol and diesel fire fighting pumps.

Why won't my fire pump start?

Stale fuel is the most common cause, followed by a fouled spark plug, a flat battery or a worn starter. Our service checks all of these.

Do you test the sprinklers as well as the pump?

Yes. We run your sprinklers and hose reels during every service to confirm the whole system works.
